| ラスベガス学園は創立30年を目前に控え、日本のマンションにたとえるならば「大規模修繕」の時期にさしかかっております。設立当初からしばらくの間は問題のなかったことでも、2024年の今から考えると古めかしくなったり、現在の価値観には合わないようなことも目立つようになりました。ただ今、過去の記録を遡りつつ、これからラスベガス学園がより良い補習校となるために何をしたら良いのか、聖域を設けずに検証を進めております。
その一環として、各部の名称を、その教授・指導内容に合わせた名称へと変更します。 「国際部」を「日本語日本文化コース Japanese Language and Culture Course」に改称いたします。 「普通部」を「初等部 Elementary Course」「中等部 Junior High Course」に改称いたします。初等部は１〜６年、中等部は１〜３年とし、今まで「小学課程」「中学課程」をまとめて「普通部」としてきましたが、まとめた名称は新たに制定しません。 「幼稚部」は名称変更いたしません。 改称の理由 従来の「国際部」という名称では、実際になにをやっているのかイメージがわかず、曖昧な点が多かったので、学ぶ内容が一目でわかるようにします。 日本では、初等・中等教育において「普通部」という呼称は使われていません。高校では「普通科」がありますが、その場合でも英訳において適切が語が存在しません。また「普通」を、「正常な、異常のない」と解釈されるケースもあり、誤解が生じていました。ラスベガス学園で使用する、文部科学省検定教科書は「小学１年〜６年」と「中学１〜３年」に分かれていることや、本学園においても小学６年終了時に「小学課程修了」として「卒業証書」を発行しているので、それに合わせた呼称にします。 ラスベガス学園では、極力、日英２カ国語表記に努めていますが、ホームページなどは、英語での情報が少なかったり、非日本語話者の方にはわかりにくかったこともあり、今回の改称に合わせ、他にも、非日本語話者の方にとっても「一目でわかる」ようにし、特に国際的なご家庭において、保護者の皆様全員がラスベガス学園の活動をわかりやすくするために努力して参ります。 新年度に向けて、スタッフ一同、一生懸命準備を進めております。保護者会の皆様には、いつも多大なご協力をいただき、言葉に尽くせぬ感謝の思いでいっぱいです。どうぞ、新年度も変わらぬお力添えをいただきたくお願い申しあげます。 なお、この度、Las Vegas Japan Timesに、インタビュー記事が掲載されました。合わせてご覧頂ければ幸いです。 https://view.publitas.com/las-vegas-japan-times/lvjt2024-03/page/4-5 |

As Las Vegas Gakuen nears its 30th anniversary, we are in the midst of a period of “large-scale repair” if we were to compare it to a Japanese condominium. Even though there were no problems for a while after the establishment of the school, things have become old-fashioned and not in line with the current values in 2024. We are now going back to our past records and examining what we can do to make Las Vegas Gakuen a better school in the coming years. As part of the effort, we are pleased to announce that the following: From the Las Vegas Gakuen academic year 2024 (starting in April 2024), the current “国際部 (Kokusai-bu) International Division” will be renamed the “日本語日本文化コース Japanese Language and Culture Course”. “普通部 （Futsu-bu) Untranslatable” will be changed to “初等部 Elementary Course” and “中等部 Junior High Course”. Elementary Course will be grades 1-6, and Junior High Course will be grades 1-3. The name “幼稚部 Kindergarten” will not be changed. Reason for the name change: The conventional name “International Division” was vague and did not give a clear picture of what the students actually learn, so we will make it easier to understand at a glance what the course is about. In Japan, the term “普通(Futsu) —literally translated as Normal Course or General Course” is not used in elementary and secondary education. In high school, there is a “Normal Course,” but even in this case, there is no equivalent word in English translation. In some cases, the word “normal” has been interpreted as “normal, without abnormality,” leading to misunderstandings. The textbooks used at Las Vegas Gakuen, which are certified by the Ministry of Education, are divided into elementary level and junior high level. LVG issues a “diploma” at the end of the sixth grade (elementary) and third grade (junior high) as “completion of the curriculum,” respectively. Although Las Vegas Gakuen has made efforts to provide bilingual information in English and Japanese, there still was a lack of information in English on our website, and it was difficult for non-Japanese speakers to understand. We will strive to make the activities of Las Vegas Gakuen’s activities more understandable to all parents and guardians, especially those in international families. Our staff is hard at work preparing for the new school year. We would like to thank the Parents’ Association for their continued support and cooperation, for which we cannot express our gratitude enough.
