| 毎週、土曜日の授業が終わると、教員はその日の「指導記録」を作成します。この記録には、授業内容、目標と達成度、生徒の様子、保護者とのやりとりなどの詳細がまとめられています。これが毎週火曜日までに、主任教諭、事務局、教頭、そして理事長である私に送られ、細かく内容を確認し、学園運営陣が最新の状況を把握します。
私は毎週この記録を見るのをとても楽しみにしています。毎回、全ての教室を巡回することはできないのですが、一人ひとりの生徒に関するコメントを書かれる先生も多く、授業の様子が手に取るようにわかります。また、先生方が抱える課題や、改善点なども学校全体で共有し、保護者会会長を交えた「運営会議」や、「教職員会議」、そして「理事会」で適宜、検討されています。 先日も、幼稚部の先生の「指導記録」の中に、保護者の方とのやりとりが報告されていました。子育てに関し、保護者の方が発したふとした言葉に対して、この先生は、豊かな幼児教育とご自身の子育ての経験をもとに、保護者の方に理解を示し、またこういうときはこうしてみたらいかがですか、と提案をされました。 保護者の方からは「気持ちが楽になりました」とおっしゃっていただけたそうです。この教諭は、そのように役立てて嬉しかったと綴っています。 幼稚部は、特に「初めての子育て」、しかもアメリカでの子育てということで、保護者の方にとって不安や心配ごとも少なくないでしょう。 幼稚部の先生たちは、毎週の自分の授業記録をチーム全体に公開し、お互いに相談したり、役立つ情報を共有しています。いつも複数の目が生徒たちに向いているからこそのエピソードだったと思います。 私は、毎週、全教員の指導記録を隅から隅まで読みコメントをつけてお返ししていますが、いつも、この先生たちに教えてもらえる生徒たちは幸せだなぁと思っています。 |
Each week, after Saturday classes, teachers write a “lesson report” for the day. This report details the content of the lesson, goals and accomplishments, any concerns, how the students are doing, and any interactions with parents. This will be sent to the head teacher, the administration, the vice principal, and me, the board president, by Tuesday of next week. The administration team is always updated with what is going on.
I look forward to reading these reports. Although it is not possible for me to visit every classroom every week, many teachers write comments about each student so I can see how the students are doing and how the lessons are going. In addition, issues faced by teachers and areas for improvement are shared throughout the school and discussed at “leadership meetings” with the PTA presidents, “faculty meetings,” and “board meetings” as appropriate. Recently, one of the kindergarten teachers reported on her interaction with a parent in her “lesson report”. In response to a parent’s concern about parenting, the teacher, drawing on her rich experience in early childhood education and her own parenting, showed understanding and offered considerate advice. The parent appreciated this and said, “I feel much better now”. This teacher was glad to be of such help. Kindergarten maybe an especially challenging time for parents who are raising their children for the first time in a foreign country, so it is natural for them to have many concerns. Kindergarten teachers make their own weekly class records available to the entire team so that they can consult with each other and share useful information. There are always multiple eyes on the students. Needless to say, all faculty and staff, not just those in the Kindergarten Department are here to listen to the parents. I myself read all teachers’ lesson plans from cover to cover and reply to them with comments; I always feel that our students are blessed to be taught by these amazing teachers. |
